The founder of SCI Dr. Eugene Garfeild was awarded the honorary professor of DUT

On the 14^th Sep, The founder of SCI and the famous scientist Dr.Garfeild was awarded the Honorary Professor of DUT, in the academic hall of DUT. The vice-president of DUT, Dongming Guo awarded the letter of appointment of Honorary Professor.

Prof. Garfeild is the leader in the field of scientometrics. It is his first time to participate in COLLNET conference, with the sincere invitation of WISE lab’s founder Prof. Zeyuan Liu. In his honour speech, Prof. Garfeild metioned the close connections between China and him. He said that he got to know China at the age of 14, first visited china in 1989 and delivered a lecture in university of science and technology of China in 2003, and he was impressed with China. He said that China had experienced a rapid development in society and economy after reform and open-up, and the strength of scientific research was enhanced at the same time. So he was not surprised to find that china has become the leader in the field of scientometrics, meanwhile, he felt very delight when he was awarded the honor Professor of DUT.

In the following honorary report, Garfeild gave a report on“From Information retrieval to scientometics - is the dog still wagging ITS tall”and answered the questions raised by scholars present this conference.
